Finding recipes is a treasure hunt. Once you find a recipe, you have to make it your own. A little more vanilla, maybe brown sugar instead of white and definitely good butter. I try recipes at least five times before I ever present a cake flavor to a client. Even though I might think it is perfect, I can’t help but tweak it one more time.
Building a business is like that, too. You hunt for the perfect answers to your challenges, try a little of this and that until you find the perfect combo. Then things change and you adjust.
For over two decades I have found the perfect recipes and business systems, lost them, tweaked them, found them again. Sometime in the past five or so years, I started to share this journey with you.
We created a community, you and I. Us cake designers, we are small but sweet group ever seeking a higher art form. We need to stick together.
All the social formats gave me a way to reach you. I love hearing about your journey and I also love sharing my mistakes, my success and the why behind my methods.
But those pesky forums (thanks, Mark Zuckerberg) keep changing the recipe and quite frankly, I am tired to trying to bake the perfect presence. Who knows how often my posts even reach you and how many of you?
I felt like I kept putting too much sugar in the mix but the cake was always bitter.
You, this community, has become so important to me. I needed to find a way to reach you consistently and with care. I don’t want our exchanges to get lost in the algorithms.
As I move the focus away from social media, you’ll find me here on Substack every single week (sometime more when I am inspired). Sure, we’ll talk sugar flowers and recipes, but we will also be taking wedding planners and marketing, contracts and client policies, and finally, pricing and finances.
Because the information I share is thoughtful and from personal experience, it will be for paid subscribers. No expensive courses and classes that don’t allow for interaction and follow up. Just consistent, updated information, all archived for your reference. Founding members will receive access to my annual planning guide, holiday book and special pricing on products.
Like all ideas, this is just a start. Expect growth and change as we create a community of cake designers and creatives. I’ll try things and you can tell me what works and what to leave behind.
Thank you for subscribing. I am committed to helping you create a fulfilling and fruitful journey.
XO
